The following enhancements and bug fixes were included in the 7.3 release of Utah Compose:

  • Added and refined rules for subject-verb agreement, homophones, and other conventions

7.1 Release

The following enhancement was included in the 7.1 release of Utah Compose

  • Updated Nightly Importer to preserve teacher-created course names

7.0 Release

August 10, 2017

The following enhancements and bug fixes were included in the 7.0 release of Utah Compose:

  • Updated the PEG engine scoring models
  • Changed characterisitic scores to show a decimal, rounded to the nearest tenth, rather than a whole number (see Using the Program and Its Features for more information).
  • Added advanced filtering for the Average Monthly Scores report to show first drafts and last drafts
  • Changed the Sentence Structure characterisitc to Sentence Fluency to better differentiate it from Conventions
  • Updated some lesson text and audio; added read-aloud capability to those that had not had it before
  • Updated titles for lessons "Transition Phrases" and "Using Self-Statements to Improve Argumentative Writing"
  • Moved lesson "Writing an Essay" from Organization to Development of Ideas; moved lessons "Pronoun Agreement" and "Subject-Verb Agreement" from Sentence Structure/Fluency to Conventions
  • Updated the lessons tab to order lessons alphabetically by title
  • Updated the technical specifications to Mac OS X 10.11 or later; Ubuntu 14.04 or later; Chromebook 5.7 or later; iOS 10.2 or later; and Android 7.0 or later

6.5 Release

June 6, 2017

The following enhancements and bug fixes were included in the 6.5 release of Utah Compose:

  • Added more print features to allow teachers to print multiple essays per prompt.
  • Added a new usage report to allow administrators to see the number of essay drafts for student, class, school, district, and/or state for each of the previous three school years.
  • Changed essay character count to word count.
  • Updated technical specifications for Android 5.0 or later. 
  • Updated text for the “Share prompt” confirmation message.

6.4 Release

March 28, 2017

The following enhancements and bug fixes were included in the 6.4 release of Utah Compose:

  • Modernized layout – better use of content areas, improved scalability for mobile devices and smaller screen sizes, new lesson page layout
  • Accessibility Tool updates – indicator of which tool is ‘on’; additional Color Contrast option, largest font size display improvements
  • Improved email format validation
  • Updated filters on the Prompt page
  • Changed the validation message for stimulus material who’s file size is too large
  • Changed “Edit Course Name” link in footer to “Edit Course”

6.3 Release

January 31, 2017

The following enhancements and bug fixes were included in the 6.3 release of Utah Compose:

  • Added 8 new graphic organizers
  • Showing author's name to peer reviewer on the score report page
  • Made the School/District field non-editable when creating a user
  • Website stimulus material now opens in separate tabs
  • Updated instructional text for specialized vocabulary advanced prompt feature
  • Increased text spacing on credential recovery screen
  • Updated accessibility tools
  • New courses can now be added and saved in an inactive state
  • Updated rules for displaying messages related to schools being inactive and/or expired

6.2.1 Release

December 20, 2016

The following enhancements and bug fixes were included in the 6.2.1 release of Utah Compose

  • Resolve issue causing Peer Review and Recommended fields to disappear in Prompt Advanced Options when a validation message is triggered
  • Remove action associated with "No matching records found" text in any table
  • Add validation rules to Textual Evidence and Content Accuracy scoring
  • Make table column header font treatment consistent site-wide
  • Display pop-up message warning loss of content to users who choose a new graphic organizer via double click vs using the next button
  • Change all instances of Proctor to Teacher and Writer to Student
  • Resolve issue causing the introductory screens for lesson 13 and the grammar exercises to load off-screen
  • Improve messaging on the Credential Recovery screen(s)
  • Make "ExternalID" field uneditable to teachers
  • Remove contact us fields from the server error page

6.0.11 Release

The following enhancements and bug fixes were included in the 6.0.11 release of Utah Compose:

  • Resolve issue causing stimulus material to repeat on the edit prompt page(s)
  • Resolve issue keeping stimulus material from appearing on the Draft/Practice page

6.0 Release

July 2016

The following updates, enhancements and maintenance actions were included in the 6.0 release of Utah Compose:

NEW Features and Major Enhancements Student Teacher SA DA
Writers can return to revising an essay after selecting the Format and Finalize features. Y Y    
Writers can tab from field to field in graphic organizers. Y Y    
Course picker drop down shows only active courses and a See All link. This link takes users to the Select a Course page with all courses displayed. Y Y    
Writers now have a character count displayed for essays (maximum is 20,000 characters). Y      
In the Score Report, the Six Traits are displayed in the same order in both the graph and feedback list. Y Y    
Teachers and Writers can access Constructed Response reports. Y Y    
Teachers can comment on essay text that already has grammar and/or spelling suggestions from PEG. Y Y    
New Prompt Advanced Option: Teachers can add words to the Specialized Vocabulary List. The scoring engine will not "flag" these words as errors in the essay. The scoring engine will still consider them misspelled words, but with minimal (if any) impact to the score. NOTE: The feature in Advanced Options does not have spell check, so be sure to check spelling when adding words to the Specialized Vocabulary List.   Y    
New Prompt Advanced Option: Essay Formatting can now be enabled/disabled by prompt, as well as set to display only after a designated number of revisions have been submitted. (This functions similarly to the Grammar and Spelling Feedback advanced option.)   Y    
In the Add Student to Course window, Teachers can now utilize additional search terms, such as student ID, username, first name, last name, etc.   Y    
In the Register Existing window, the Add All Grade XX Students button has been removed.   Y Y Y
Students can now be assigned to multiple schools at one time. Administrators can view, add, and remove schools on the Manage User page.     Y Y
Available graphic organizer selections are designated by the student's grade as well as the genre of the selected prompt. Y Y Y Y

Peer Review: Additional students can be added to a peer review group when the warning message regarding having only one student in the group is displayed. The current course must have two or more students in order to use the Randomize group setting. The Randomize button is disabled until that requirement is met.   Y    
Several site/page performance issues have been addressed (page load times, caching, etc.). Y Y Y Y
Bandwidth guidelines have been documented: 45 kbps per student with a cached browser or 115 kbps per student with a non-cached browser. Full documentation can be provided upon request. Y Y Y Y
